Audition Requirements

Enrollment Limits:

Admission to Music 320 and Music 321 is by enrollment. Admission to Music 420, Music 421 and Music 490/491 is by audition only. Enrollment for Music 320 or 321 is limited to 20 students.  Enrollment for Music 420 or 421 is limited to 8 students.  Music 490/491, the Senior Essay Project in Musical Composition is limited to only 1 or 2 students per year.

Auditioning for Music 420 and Music 421:

All students must audition for Music 420 and Music 421 and should submit: 1), a proposal of compositional work planned during the given semester with an explanation as to how the proposed work represents an advancement of compositional aesthetics, skills and techniques; and 2), one or two .pdf scores and .mp3 recordings. Submit these materials online as a single .zip file as directed at the Canvas website for Composition Seminar. Auditioning for Music 497a or b:

Students who are interested in Music 497a or b should e-mail either Professor Kathryn Alexander or Professor Konrad Kaczmarek to make an appointment in order to learn more about the application process for the Music 497a or b Senior Project enrollment. Acceptance is by audition only and requires prior completion of Music 312a or 320a, 313b or 321b, 412a or 420a and 413b or 421b. Enrollment is limited to only a small handful of students per year.
